How to Get to Kalinchowk

Renting a private jeep from Kathmandu and head directly to Kuri Village and then trek to Kalinchowk hill is the most convenient way to reach Kalinchowk. You can reach Kuri Village before nightfall if you start the trip early in a private jeep. 

Another option is to take a bus from Kathmandu to Charikot and then ride a jeep to Kuri village. Remember that you need to spend a night at Chairkot if you travel by bus to Charikot from Kathmandu. However, you don’t have to worry about accommodation and facilities; Charikot is the headquarters of Dolakha, and the infrastructures are adequately developed. A side trip option of visiting Dolakha Bhimsen Temple is also available, which is within a 20minutes drive from Charikot. Kuri village is within walking distance of 10-12 hours from Charikot, and the trail can be quite strenuous. You will find the trail mostly uphill from Deurali to Kuri village, and there is no accommodation facility along the way. So, it is better to start your trek early in the morning and reach Kuri village before nightfall.

There are two options from Kuri Village. You can either trek to the top of the hill to Kalinchowk Bhagawati Temple, dedicated to the Hindu goddess of destruction or take a cable car from Kalinchowk cable car station if you don’t like strenuous activities. The cable car will directly take you to the top of the hill, which costs around Rs. 500. 

Best Time to Visit Kalinchowk

Kalinchowk is accessible all year round; however, the best time to visit Kalinchowk depends on the purpose of your visit. If your preference is a short trek and visit to Kalinchowk Bhagwati Temple, then summer or autumn will be the perfect time for you as the weather won’t be that cold and the price of accommodation will be low during this time. But if you wish to enjoy snowfall or any other snow activities, then December, January, and February would be the ideal months for you to visit this place. This time is also the peak tourism season of this reason. You can enjoy lots of snow games during this time, including snowboarding. But, as it is the peak season, you will find the place crowded, and accommodation will also be a bit expensive.
