Trip Overview
Bhairab Kunda is a sacred alpine lake located at an altitude of approximately 4,200 meters in Sindhupalchok District, northeast of Kathmandu. Surrounded by rugged Himalayan terrain and rich cultural heritage, it holds deep religious significance for both Hindus and Buddhists.
According to local belief, the lake is dedicated to Lord Bhairab, a fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva. Every year, during the Janai Purnima festival, hundreds of pilgrims make the challenging journey to offer prayers and take a ritual bath believed to cleanse sins and grant blessings.
Aside from its spiritual value, Bhairab Kunda is a hidden gem for trekkers and nature enthusiasts. The route offers breathtaking views of Langtang, Jugal, and Rolwaling Himalayan ranges, alpine meadows, and traditional Tamang villages along the way.
Whether you're visiting for spiritual fulfillment, scenic photography, or offbeat adventure, Bhairab Kunda offers a rare blend of tranquility, divinity, and raw Himalayan beauty.
