Nepal Overland Trip
Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu. Transfer to Hotel
Day 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley.
Boudhanath: This ancient colossal Stupa is one of the biggest in the world. The base of the stupa takes the shape of a mandala (symbolizing earth): on this four tiered base sits the dome (symbolizing water): then comes the spire (symbolizing fire): the umbrella (symbolizing air) and the pinnacle (symbolizing ether). The spire is made up of 13 steps, representing the 13 stages on the journey to nirvana. Pashupatinath: The most important Hindu temple in Nepal. It’s one of the most important Shiva temples on the subcontinent and draws numerous devotees from all over Nepal and India. Kathmandu Durbar Square: Durbar in Nepali means ‘palace’ and in Patan and Bhaktapur, as well as Katmandu, there are Durbar Squares in front of the old palaces. The king no longer resides in the old Royal Palace in Katmandu: the palace was moved north to Narayanhiti about a century ago. Clustered around the central Durbar Square and the old Royal Palace (Hanuman Dhoka) are numerous interesting temples, the Kumari Chowk or Kumari Bahal (House of the Living Goddess) and the Kasthamandap (House of Wood).
Drive to Pokhara, a lovely lakeside town with fabulous views of the Himalayas.
Day 4: Sightseeing in Pokhara.
Early morning drive to Sarangkot for a stunning view of the Annapurna range for Sunrise (depending on weather) Return to Pokhara for Breakfast. Sightseeing tour of David’s falls. Tibetan Settlements, Tibetan Buddhist Monastery Davidâ??s Falls, Also known as Patale Chango, Devin’s or David’s falls, this waterfall is about two km south-west of the airport on the main Siddhartha Highway and just before the Tashiling Tibetan village. The Pardi Khola is the outflow from Phewa Tal and at Davidâ??s fall it suddenly drops down into a hole in the ground and disappears The River emerges form its subterranean hideaway 200m further on and then join the Seti Gandaki River. Tibetan Settlements: There are a number of Tibetan settlements around Pokhara and you see many Tibetans around the lake selling their crafts and artifacts. The Tashiling Tibetan village, where they weave Tibetan carpets, is only a couple of km southwest of the airport. There’s a large settlement known as Tashipalkhel at Hyangia, a short drove or an hour or two’s walk northwest of Pokhara on the start of the Jomsom Trek route. Tibetan Buddhist Monastery: Cross mahendrapul Bridge from the bazaar area and follow the road, as first paved, to this hilltop monastery. It’s a comparatively recent construction with a large Buddha statue and colorful wall paintings.
Day 5: Our journey takes us through the valleys of central Nepal to the banks of the Rapti River in the Chitwan National Park.
Day 6: On foot, canoe or on elephant, there is the chance to see some of Chitwan's famous wildlife.
Day 7: Return to Kathmandu. Traditional Nepalese Dinner with Nepalese Cultural Show.
Day 8: Transfer to airport for onward flight.
